Feather Creek Nature Preserve Biological Inventory

Feather Creek Nature Preserve is a 10-acre woodlot that was recently purchased using a Kentucky Heritage Land Fund Grant  by Taylor County Fiscal Court.  The property which is adjacent to Clay Hill Memorial Forest, had been scheduled be logged. Now it will be managed as a nature preserve by Clay Hill Memorial Forest.  To secure funding for this property, the university agreed to support research to identify the major plant communities present on the site and to inventory species of plants and animals present.  Dr. Weddle is spearheading this effort and will work with students to study plant communities, mammals, amphibians, and fishes.  Andrea O’Bryan will study the amphibians on the site for her senior research project.   Professor Tungate will work with students to determine the herbaceous plants present, and Dr. Kessler will work with students to determine a bird species list.  If you have an interest in working on any of the Feather Creek Projects, contact the appropriate faculty member.  Follow the links below for updates on each project.
Funding is available to reimburse expenses of travel to and from Clay Hill for students involved with the Feather Creek Inventory.   Students should attempt to carpool when possible.  To be reimbursed you will need to have a written record of your mileage.  Turn this in to Dr. Weddle.
