Mission Statement

 

    Mission Statement:

    The Clay Hill Memorial Forest, consisting of the Joan White Howell Nature preserve and Environmental Education Center and the Dr. James Sanders White Forest Management Woodland, is established to promote environmental education on all levels, to foster opportunities for research, to demonstrate the potential for harmonious interaction between man and the environment and to preserve a valuable natural heritage.

    Forest Utilization Zones

A. Core Forest.--Property designated as Core Forest will be preserved in perpetuity. Core Forest will be predominantly used for long-term ecological research and for environmental education.

B. Managed Forest.--Property designated as Managed Forest will be utilized for agricultural and forestry projects that demonstrate harmonious interaction between economic use and preservation. These projects will allow educational and research comparisons of various forest management techniques. Management will be limited to techniques or experimental methods that do not negatively impact the Core Forest. Clear-cutting of timber will not be allowed on any portion of the property. The use of chemical toxins will be prohibited in Core and Managed forest but may be used in laboratories and for building maintenance.
