Endangered Species

An endangered species is one which is thought to be at real risk of extinction. Although extinction is a natural process, man has caused a drastic increase in the rate of extinction on a global scale.   The links at the left will allow you to examine several internet sites where you can learn more about species that are currently endangered and those which are already extinct.

In many states hellbenders (our largest American stream Salamander) are listed as an endangered species but they seem to be doing a little better in Kentucky.  Locally they occur in the Green River Drainage.
