The bullfrog is a common resident of the ponds at Clay Hill. Bullfrogs are our largest frogs. They are permanant residents of the pond; they rarely leave.They can be seen sunbathing at the surface of the water in early spring. The photos above were taken on 1 March 2007. This individual was seined from our pond by the Ecology Class and released following his photo set. When he is being defensive, he inflates his body as can be seen in several of the above photos. Bullfrogs are the last of the pond frogs to breed. They will start croaking at Clay Hill in May.
